The U853RU is an ultracardioid hanging condenser microphone, distinguished from the standard U853R by its tighter polar pattern that provides greater off-axis rejection and improved feedback resistance in acoustically challenging overhead applications. The narrower pickup angle makes the U853RU particularly well suited for concert halls and stages where loudspeakers are positioned near the microphone's coverage zone, demanding a high degree of directional discrimination.

Ultracardioid Polar Pattern

The ultracardioid pattern offers a significantly narrower acceptance angle than standard cardioid, concentrating sensitivity directly below the suspension point. This tight pattern reduces pickup of ceiling reflections and side-wall noise while maintaining adequate coverage for the target source below, making the U853RU the preferred choice over U853R when feedback margin is critical.

Ceiling and Fly-Rig Installation

Like the U853R, the U853RU features a hanging mount with rubber isolation, a captive cable for clean ceiling routing, and operates on 11–52V phantom power.
