Franco Battiato (1945–2021) was a renowned Italian musician, singer, composer, and filmmaker, who also painted under the name Süphan Barzani. Celebrated for his eclectic style, Battiato’s music explored themes such as philosophy, spirituality, science, and art, blending genres like experimental pop, electronic, avant-garde, progressive rock, and classical music. Known for his thought-provoking lyrics and innovative sound, he was called "Il Maestro" and became one of Italy’s most influential singer-songwriters. Battiato collaborated with a wide range of artists, maintaining notable partnerships with singers Alice and Giuni Russo. In 1984, he and Alice represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "I treni di Tozeur."
