Laura Mvula is a British singer and songwriter from Birmingham, England, known for her rich blend of jazz, neo-soul, and classical influences. Classically trained and experienced in a cappella, gospel, and jazz ensembles, she signed with RCA Records in 2012 and quickly drew critical acclaim with her debut EP She. Her first album, Sing to the Moon, was released in 2013, earning her two MOBO awards and a Mercury Prize nomination. A reimagined orchestral version followed in 2014. Her second album, The Dreaming Room, arrived in 2016 and won an Ivor Novello award, alongside another Mercury Prize nomination. She also composed music for the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Antony and Cleopatra and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Birmingham City University in 2018. Laura Mvula continues to be recognized for her genre-defying sound and innovative approach to songwriting.
