Mitsuki Laycock, known professionally as Mitski, is an American singer-songwriter recognized for her emotionally resonant songwriting and unique sound. She began her career by self-releasing her first two albums, Lush and Retired from Sad, New Career in Business, while studying music at Purchase College. After releasing her third album, Bury Me at Makeout Creek, she signed with Dead Oceans and gained widespread acclaim for albums such as Puberty 2, Be the Cowboy, and Laurel Hell. Mitski’s music has charted internationally, with Laurel Hell reaching the top ten in multiple countries. In 2022, she was named the best young songwriter in America by The Guardian. That year, she also received an Academy Award nomination for co-writing the song This Is a Life for the film Everything Everywhere All at Once. Her seventh album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, was released in 2023, and its single My Love Mine All Mine became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100.
