The Undertones are a rock band from Derry, Northern Ireland, formed in 1974. The original lineup featured Feargal Sharkey on vocals, John and Damian O'Neill on guitars, Michael Bradley on bass, and Billy Doherty on drums. Their early music drew from punk and new wave, later blending in glam rock, post-punk, and, on their final album, soul and Motown influences. Between 1978 and 1983, they released thirteen singles and four albums, becoming known for energetic songs focused on youth and teenage angst rather than the political atmosphere of Northern Ireland at the time. After splitting in 1983 following Sharkey's departure, The Undertones reunited in 1999 with Paul McLoone as lead singer. They are widely recognized as Derry’s most successful band.
