Juana Molina is an Argentine singer, songwriter, and former actress, known for her innovative blend of folk and electronic music. Born in Buenos Aires to tango singer Horacio Molina and actress Chunchuna Villafañe, she first gained fame in the 1990s as a popular television comedian. At the height of her success, she left acting to pursue music full time, debuting with her album Rara in 1996. Despite early criticism in Argentina, she found greater appreciation abroad, especially after experimenting with electronic music in Los Angeles. Molina’s sound is widely recognized as folktronica, but also spans ambient, experimental, neofolk, and psychedelic influences. Her music is marked by intricate loops and layers of acoustic and electronic textures. Over time, critics have celebrated her as one of the most boundary-pushing musicians in Argentina, with international acclaim highlighting her role in redefining avant-garde Latin music.
