The group’s classic lineup featured Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison, and Moe Tucker. Managed by pop artist Andy Warhol, they became central figures in the 1960s art scene, serving as the house band at Warhol’s Factory and collaborating with German singer Nico on their iconic debut album. Although their music was initially met with commercial indifference, The Velvet Underground’s raw sound, provocative lyrics, and experimentations became highly influential, laying the groundwork for punk, new wave, and alternative music.
