Chaka Khan, born Yvette Marie Stevens in 1953, is a legendary American singer known as the Queen of Funk. She first rose to prominence in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of the funk band Rufus, delivering iconic hits like Tell Me Something Good, Sweet Thing, Do You Love What You Feel, and Ain't Nobody. Launching her solo career, she scored major success with I’m Every Woman and broke new ground with her 1984 hit I Feel for You, a pioneering R and B crossover featuring a rapper. Chaka Khan’s powerful voice can also be heard on songs like Through the Fire, as well as Higher Love with Steve Winwood. Over her five-decade career, she has won ten Grammy Awards and achieved numerous gold and platinum records both solo and with Rufus. Khan has collaborated with artists such as Whitney Houston, Quincy Jones, and Miles Davis, and is celebrated as one of the greatest women in rock and soul. She has received multiple nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2023, was inducted in the Musical Excellence category.
