Burt Bacharach (May 12, 1928 – February 8, 2023) was a renowned American composer, songwriter, producer, and pianist, considered one of the most influential figures in 20th-century popular music. Known for his innovative approach, Bacharach’s songs stand out for their sophisticated melodies, jazz-inspired chord progressions, and unique orchestration. He wrote hundreds of hits, many with lyricist Hal David, and his work was recorded by more than a thousand artists, including Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones, and the Carpenters. His best-known songs include Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head, This Guy’s in Love with You, and (They Long to Be) Close to You. Bacharach's music shaped the easy listening genre and influenced later pop movements. Over his career, he received six Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards, and an Emmy, and in 2012, he and David were honored with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
