Florence and the Machine is an English indie rock band formed in London in 2007, led by vocalist Florence Welch. Known for their dramatic sound and powerful vocals, the band quickly gained attention with support from BBC Music Introducing. Their debut album, Lungs, released in 2009, became a commercial success, holding high positions on the UK Albums Chart and earning the Brit Award for Best British Album. Their follow-up album, Ceremonials, topped the UK charts and reached the top ten in the US. In 2015, their third album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, became their first to top the US Billboard 200 and led to their historic headline performance at Glastonbury Festival, where Welch became the first British female headliner of the century. Florence and the Machine blend rock and soul influences, and have received multiple award nominations, including six Grammy nods, and have performed at major events such as the MTV Video Music Awards and the Nobel Peace Prize Concert.
