Japanese Breakfast is an indie pop band from Philadelphia, led by musician Michelle Zauner. Formed in 2013 as a solo project alongside her work with Little Big League, Zauner was later joined by Peter Bradley, Deven Craige, Craig Hendrix, Lauren Baba, and Adam Schatz. The band’s music began as a personal outlet during a difficult period in Zauner’s life and evolved into widely acclaimed albums, including Psychopomp, Soft Sounds from Another Planet, and Jubilee. Jubilee earned Grammy nominations and charted on the Billboard 200. Japanese Breakfast’s sound blends intimate songwriting with lush arrangements, making them a standout name in modern indie music. Their most recent album, For Melancholy Brunettes and Sad Women, was released in 2025.
