LCD Soundsystem is an American dance-punk band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2002 by James Murphy, who also co-founded DFA Records. The group features Murphy alongside Nancy Whang, Pat Mahoney, Tyler Pope, Al Doyle, and Korey Richey. Known for energetic live performances and a blend of electronic, punk, and dance influences, the band broke through with singles like Losing My Edge and their highly acclaimed self-titled debut album in 2005.
LCD Soundsystem earned multiple Grammy nominations, with their track Daft Punk Is Playing at My House becoming a commercial hit. They continued their success with the albums Sound of Silver in 2007 and This Is Happening in 2010, the latter earning them their first US top-ten placement. After a farewell show at Madison Square Garden in 2011 and a brief hiatus, the band reunited in 2015 and released American Dream in 2017, which became their first number-one album in the US. Known for their smart lyrics, innovative production, and genre-defying sound, LCD Soundsystem remains a key figure in modern dance and indie music.
