Peter Mark Almond, born in 1957, is an English singer-songwriter best known as the frontman of the synth-pop duo Soft Cell. With his soulful voice and androgynous image, Almond became a key figure in the early 1980s music scene, achieving global success with Soft Cell's hit "Tainted Love." After the duo disbanded, he launched a solo career marked by hits like "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" and "Tears Run Rings," blending pop, cabaret, and electronic influences. Throughout his career, Almond has worked with a range of artists and explored diverse musical genres, earning both critical and commercial acclaim and selling over 30 million records worldwide. Surviving a serious motorcycle accident in 2004, he later became involved with brain injury charity work. In recognition of his contributions to arts and culture, Almond was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2018.
