Blind Guardian is a German power metal band formed in 1984 in Krefeld, West Germany. Renowned as pioneers of both power and speed metal, they have played a crucial role in shaping the genre’s sound and legacy. The group’s lineup has changed over the years, but currently features vocalist Hansi Kürsch, guitarists André Olbrich and Marcus Siepen, and drummer Frederik Ehmke. Originally founded as Lucifer’s Heritage, the band adopted the Blind Guardian name before releasing their debut album, Battalions of Fear, in 1988. Over their long career, they have released eleven studio albums, including the acclaimed orchestral project Blind Guardian Twilight Orchestra. Their most celebrated works, like Somewhere Far Beyond, Imaginations from the Other Side, and Nightfall in Middle-Earth, blend powerful melodies, complex arrangements, and lyrics inspired by epic fantasy literature and mythology. Known for their imaginative storytelling and symphonic soundscapes, Blind Guardian are affectionately called "The Bards" by their fans. Recognized as one of the most influential acts in power metal, they are often mentioned alongside other giants such as Helloween, Sabaton, and DragonForce.
