João Gilberto was a Brazilian guitarist, singer, and composer known as the father of bossa nova. Rising to fame in the late 1950s, he played a key role in shaping this influential genre. His collaboration on the album Getz/Gilberto made history in 1965 as the first jazz album to win the Grammy for Album of the Year. Gilberto's work continued to receive acclaim, including a Grammy nomination for Amoroso and a win for Best World Music Album with João voz e violão in 2001. In Brazil, he was revered as "O Mito," meaning The Myth, for his lasting impact on music.
