Siouxsie and the Banshees were a highly influential British rock band formed in London in 1976 by vocalist Siouxsie Sioux and bassist Steven Severin. Emerging from the punk scene, they quickly helped shape the post-punk genre with bold experimentation and atmospheric sound. The band’s lineup included key members such as guitarist John McKay and drummer Kenny Morris, later joined by guitarist John McGeoch and drummer Budgie, which marked significant shifts in their musical style.
Their debut album, The Scream, received critical acclaim in 1978, and albums like Kaleidoscope and Juju established them as a major force in the alternative scene and pioneers of gothic rock. In the late eighties, they achieved success in North America with the album Peepshow and scored a US hit with the single Kiss Them for Me in 1991.
Siouxsie and the Banshees released eleven studio albums, constantly evolving through various lineup changes, with Siouxsie and Severin remaining throughout. The band disbanded in 1996, after which Siouxsie and Budgie continued as the Creatures. Siouxsie later launched a solo career in 2004. In 2025, original guitarist John McKay announced his first solo album and tour performing classic Banshees material, continuing the band’s enduring legacy.
