The Selecter is an English 2 Tone ska revival band formed in Coventry in 1979. Known for its diverse line-up and energetic sound, the band helped launch the 2 Tone movement alongside The Specials, co-releasing the first 2 Tone single. Their original members included Pauline Black and Arthur Gaps Hendrickson on vocals, with a line-up notable for both racial and gender diversity. The Selecter achieved several UK chart hits during the early 1980s. After an initial split in 1981, the band reformed in 1991, with Pauline Black continuing as the driving force from 1993 onwards. Despite changes in membership, The Selecter remains active, touring and releasing new music, including their 2022 album Human Algebra.
