The kalimba is a traditional African instrument originating from central and southern Africa, often called a thumb piano. It consists of metal reeds attached to a resonating body that the player pinches or taps with their thumbs. The length of the reeds determines the tone it produces. The instruments vary in number of reeds, from 5 to more than 20. Today, kalimbas are popular worldwide for their unique sound and ease of playing.
